France is a dream destination for many people and a country that I love. It is rich in history, culture, and natural beauty. The following are a few of my favourite photos that I have combined in a Best of France gallery. Click the thumbnail to view a larger photo with captions.

As the sun set over Avignon, France, a beautiful golden light illuminated this staircase on the Papal Palace.

The golden light falling across these windows and contrasting with the shadows caught my eye. This image was made in Avignon, France and had some extra texture added in Photoshop.

This image was taken at the Pont du Gard aqueduct in Southern France. I’ve been to this location 3 times now, and it never ceases to amaze me how people constructed this enormous structure by hand. The best guest is that it was constructed in 19 BC. Wow.

My love of windows sometimes extends to doors too. This one was photographed in my favorite little village in the provence region of France, Gigondas.

This is one of my favourite window images, particularly because of the memories it evokes for me. This one was photographed in one of my favourite little villages in southern France, Gigondas. For me it represents fine wine, great food, summer sun, and long, lazy days.

The Château de Pau, or Castle of Pau is located in the city centre overlooking the Pyrenees Mountains. It was once used by Napoleon as a holiday home and has a small garden that was tended by Marie Antoinette.

This lonely pathway is near a creperie that was recommended to us by our friends at La Benjamine… They, of course, were right. The crepes are divine. This pathway leads to a spectacular view of the Pyrenees, were I took many photos. As we were walking back, the sky darkened and everything got very quiet before the approaching storm. I was struck by the barrenness of the scene.

The Pyrenees mountain range spans the boarder of France and Spain.

A Farm in the Pyrenees

This image was one of those “Stop the car!” moments. We were driving through the Pyrenees in a slushy snow/rain storm and I spotted the waterfall beside this little building. It looked like a fairytale forest hideaway.

-
I spotted this scene in Southwest France just below the Pyrenees mountain range. The sheep were obediently following the shepherdess on her bicycle and the Great Pyrenees dog was watching over everyone in the rain.

I am off to France in July for a bit. First time down there with the new camera, so we’ll see what I manage to make of it 🙂
Excellent! Do you know what part yet? If you need any info let me know because we have amassed quite a pile of France travel links and info.
Fantastic photos as always! I might contact you for those travel links you offered Breigh in the future… Considering doing a “Europe Trip” in the summer rather than settling down… ‘cos hey, I have the rest of my life to settle down and pay bills and do “grown-up things! ;o)
Absolutely! As well as France, I have lots of info on Belgium and the Netherlands. If you want a starting point you can check out my expat blog at http://cheeseweb.eu Let me know if I can give any help or tips!
